Vancouver, BC - April 18, 2011. The British Columbia Real Estate Association (BCREA) reports that Multiple Listing Service® (MLS®) residential sales in the province continued to climb higher in March. Compared to March of 2010, MLS® residential unit sales increased 11.5 per cent to 8,600 units. The average MLS® residential price rose 15 per cent to $594,157 in March compared to the same month last year.
"We continue to observe a two-speed market in BC, with surging consumer demand in Metro Vancouver overshadowing more moderate demand in other regions," said Cameron Muir, BCREA Chief Economist. "Vigorous consumer demand drove Greater Vancouver to its most active March since 2004, while the Fraser Valley had its strongest March in four years. Conversely, sales activity in other BC markets is expanding at a pace more inline with overall economic growth."
Year-to-date, BC residential sales dollar volume increased 21 per cent to $11.14 billion, compared to the same period last year. Residential unit sales increased 4.7 per cent to 19,147 units. The average MLS® residential price rose 15.4 per cent to $582,021 over the same period.

Follow me to and down Giant's Head Mountain in Summerland BC South Okanagan
Trail to peak of Giant's Head Mountain in Summerland, BC. Trail is steep in places but no climbing is required. Length is 1.6 KM from trailhead to summit and elevation gain is approx 350 m (1050 ft). Time from base to top is approx 25-40 minutes and 20-30 minutes coming down, depending on ability of hikers. Not recommended for dogs (you are in direct sunlight all the way and no watering holes). In short, a good quick hike to get your heart rate up and with a beautiful view of the Okanagan at the top.
Directions:Trailhead is about 100m up Milne Rd at Giant's Head Rd.

Prairie Valley Road and Rosedale Avenue Progress Report

During the weeks of April 4th to April 15th
Rosedale Avenue
Rosedale Avenue is near completion with only some minor irrigation touch-ups on road and landscaping to take place over the next couple of weeks. This includes ground finish at the back of the sidewalks to bring the private property back to their original state. Clean up of streets and sidewalks will also take place by the middle of the month.
Prairie Valley Road
The contractor is currently completing installation of irrigation and placing top soil into the medians and boulevard planting areas on Prairie Valley Road and in the roundabouts. Landscaping in these areas should be done next week followed by construction of the remaining Allen Block walls. Once this is complete the contractor will be placing the required material at the back of the sidewalks to tie into private property.
We are still working towards scheduling the installation of the remainder of the thermoplast cross-walks when the weather is warmer and dryer. Completion of a few items outside the scope of the project will follow such as the rock wall at the Funeral Home, the wrought iron railing and boardwalk at the Anglican Church.
During all of this work one should expect only minor delays. Single lanes may be closed for brief periods of time but we do not anticipate further full road closures.
